So I guess we were introduced several times by a few different mutual friends before I remembered him. It was my Freshman year at WPI (Fall 1999), Charles’ Junior, and I had only been there 2 or 3 weeks when we were introduced the first time. I had a group of friends with whom I became very tight right from the first week: my roommate Joanna, Brian – who she met at orientation, and Brian’s next door neighbor in their dorm, Dan. The four of us did everything together.

We were all at an event put on by all the fraternities on campus, to get to know the freshman. Dan (who later pledged Charles’ fraternity and was chosen by Charles as his “little brother” for that class) had met Charles somehow. I believe Charles asked Dan who I was that night, so Dan introduced us. I vaguely remember meeting someone that night; I had no idea it was Charles until after we’d been dating about a year!
Not long after, we were introduced in passing by another mutual friend. He reminded me that we’d met before, and I was slightly embarrassed. Eventually we met again on the Quad, the outdoor common-area of WPI, at a BBQ. Charles had to remind me that we’d met before, since I once again introduced myself as if it were the first time. This is about where he usually interrupts my telling of this story with the “I hate when you tell this story! It makes me look bad!” In fact, I think it makes me look bad! How unobservant am I!

During our conversation at the BBQ, we discussed both going to a particular social event that night. As we went our ways expecting to see each other later, I yelled “I’ll remember you this time, Chris!”…..DOH
In any case, we did meet up that night with friends, and had a great time. I had only been at school for about 6 weeks when realized we had something special, and we never turned back. It has now been nearly 7 years, with several apartments and our first home mortgage behind us. We have two cats, three acres of land, and are happier than ever! We may have been a little untraditional in buying a home before getting married, but we always thought that the money was better spent in the investment than in a piece of paper that tells us something we already knew. But now, it’s time to make it legal before it’s common law!! Not to say we’re not very excited about finally getting married and celebrating our stronger than ever love for each other!

The first time we met was a “Rave” rush event at WPI. I was introduced to her by my future fraternity “little” brother. A week or so later I re-introduced myself when we met on WPI’s Quad at a barbeque, we talked for a bit and had planned being at the same event later that evening; as we said goodbye, she had already forgotten my name. I reminded her & she insisted she would remember it, which she did. In spite of her not remembering who I was, I had already decided that I wanted to get to know her better. |

Later that night, when I arrived at the event, she was already there with some friends, we talked quite a bit that night and about a week later was when I felt I actually had her attention. We were supposed to go out music shopping with my future little brother, except he decided not to come. She really didn’t have any reason to come with me but decided to anyway. We went out, talking along the way and when we got to the store she stood by while I searched for some new records. Upon returning to campus, she came to my room and sat by watching and listening as I attempted to flawlessly beat match a set, catered specifically for her. I had finally grabbed her attention and from that day on we spent and spend as much time as possible together.
